Laurence CHICHE

Laurence-Chiche.jpeg

Laurence Chiche is a French artist born in Marseille in 1967. She lives and works in the south of France, in Aix-en-Provence.

A self-taught artist, she discovered her passion for creation in the 2000s, when she began painting female portraits in vibrant colors and influenced by pop art.

Since then, she has developed a unique artistic approach that integrates numerous mediums and techniques to create original and vibrant works.

Laurence draws her inspiration from women, their beauty, strength, and diversity. She admires the work of great photographers such as Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Patrick Demarchelier, and Elliott Ervitt, as well as that of street artists like JR, JM Robert, and David Walker.

Her works are imbued with poetry, joy, and femininity, capturing the essence of individuality and personality. She enjoys using vibrant colors, bold patterns, and abstract shapes to create portraits that catch the eye and capture the imagination.

She freely combines her painting with numerous collages, which bring power, strength, vitality, and joy to her works.

The brightness and harmony of these juxtaposed colored spots gradually release the energy emanating from each painting, giving birth to these portraits, each of which seems to convey a message.

"I am fascinated by feminine beauty and the expression of certain gazes. Through my portraits, I hope that every woman can find herself and feel simultaneously light and deep, powerful and gentle, magical and beautiful, welcoming and free, sensitive and vital, childlike and wise, priestess and spontaneous, womanly and complete. My portraits resemble the people I am attracted to."

Alongside her painting, she began sculpting in clay in 2018 to bring her ideas to life and explores the technique of reproducing her models in resin to create more durable pieces. Her sculptures are then reworked with collage and paint, adding additional texture and dimension to each creation.

As an artist, Laurence is constantly seeking new techniques and mediums to explore her vision and creative expression. She is also interested in social and political themes, using her art to express opinions and ideas on topics such as gender equality, minority rights, and environmental issues.

With an artistic career spanning over two decades, Laurence Chiche has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, won awards and accolades for her creations, and continues to inspire people around the world with her unique and captivating art.
