SARO

Saro reveals himself through his creative universe.

Originally from Switzerland, this artist grew up in the suburbs of Lausanne, a city that was the world capital of roller skating in the mid-1990s.

The International Roller Contest, the world's largest event for this sport, attracted the best American and European riders each year.

It was in this context that SARO, a roller skating enthusiast, opened the doors to various urban artistic expressions.

This is how he discovered and was captivated by hip-hop culture and the entire graphic universe that accompanies it. Daily Bread magazine, entirely dedicated to roller skating, Cypress Hill, a West Coast rap group, and Arlo Eisenberg, a pioneer of aggressive roller skating and a graphic designer, were his first sources of inspiration. A self-taught artist, he discovered the work of Keith Haring, David LaChapelle, and Andy Warhol in the early 2000s. He then experimented with painting and exhibited for the first time in a local café-restaurant. But he felt most comfortable with a camera.

Alongside his engineering studies, he devoted himself to photography and digital art. His works are now permanently exhibited in prestigious art galleries.

Accumulating a phenomenal amount of photographs of posters, stickers, graffiti, and oddities found in the streets, SARO uses these elements, collected mainly in European and American cities, as well as in Lausanne neighborhoods, to create mosaics depicting captivating women and conveying a very specific message.

Since 2023, SARO has been giving back to the streets what they once gave him by pasting his works on the walls of French-speaking Switzerland and neighboring France. In 2024, SARO was chosen to design the poster for the first street art festival in Val d'Arly. For this occasion, SARO created his first fresco, a mosaic composed of 400 ceramic photographs.
